In the animated film The Incredibles, the character Violet is (originally) a notably shy girl. She just doesn’t know how to get anything going when talking to boys.

Maybe if she had ever heard of this Calling Men website, she would have been a lot more assertive and able to say things that she would know would not make her feel silly or embarrassed; whether they had the desired effect or not.

Of course, when you are at a more mature age, with properly awakened sensibilities, you are going to view it all somewhat differently, aren’t you? They say communication is important in a relationship – but that does not strictly mean that it is like, “the more the better”.

And even if Violet would agree with that one, expect this site to say those things about communication and relationships that she – like so many women in real life – just could not. Just never forget that it is not just what you say – or even how you say it – when you say it should always be taken into consideration.

People eventually learn to accept the existence of the mantra “Men are from Mars; women are from Venus” gracefully.

Now, in the modern world, one could be forgiven for believing that the very essence of communication has changed fundamentally. And, for better or worse, it has pervaded into personal relationships as much as anything else.

Even the Calling Men site states in its first paragraph that women these days communicate with men primarily by speaking on the phone and sending emails and text messages.

The Calling Men people state their goal as to help women become confident at speaking, flirting and communicating with men easily, naturally and successfully. It may seem like an easy task, but keep your wits about you!

When you first call a guy, focus your attention on him – avoid distractions. Don’t call him then put him on hold! This is rude and disrespectful. Have a good idea of what to talk about; and be confident, kind and respectful but not obnoxious or overtly flirtatious.

And don’t talk about other people, lest you sound like a gossip. Talking about neutral topics is good, but talking about him is better – ask him questions about himself. The site also discusses when you should call – and this is linked to “respecting his time”.
