    “House Bill 19 targets ”tweens,” those 14 to 17 years old, by requiring school districts to adopt policies that prevent and address dating violence at school, provide staff training on prevention and include dating violence prevention in the health education curriculum for grades seven to 12.

    ”We’re pretty happy with the timing in that it will be in effect the next school year,” sponsor state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood said.

    Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland signed the bill earlier this week.”

    In response to this trend, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is investing $1 million in 11 communities nationwide as part of its national program, Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships. Indianapolis’s Clarian Health was chosen as one of the 11 sites to receive such funding.

    Start Strong Indianapolis was launched last month as part of the largest national initiative ever funded to target 11- to 14-year-olds in promoting safe and healthy relationships.

    Education is key as well as vigilant parental involvement.
