While dating and internet dating are supposed to be a lot of fun (after all, that’s kind of the whole point of doing it), there are going to be times when going out on a date –especially a first date– seems like a lot of work.Related articles by Zemanta

From The Love Goddess:
I’m more concerned, of course, with your love life, and, so, with the etiquette of wireless devices on dates. Planting your BlackBerry on a table when you’re on a date is, my elegant Earth Girls, against the Goddess Rules. Remember how you feel with a man who makes it clear he’s too busy for you?Whose work or whose kids always come first? Who is accessible, always, to his boss or kids or ex-wife … but not you? Who can’t connect for an hour ‘cause he’s too distracted?
That’s how your date feels when he spies that phone on the table.

So you believe in love at first sight?
Well forget it, says a psychiatrist and relationship expert who insists the myth of love at first sight is not only untrue but is to blame for many unhappy relationships and failed marriage.
Gordon Livingston says it’s “mindless” to think you’ve found “the one” after making eye contact with that random guy on the train, or the girl who made your coffee.
Wow did he rain on a lot of parades.

Ruth Houston, Infidelity News and Views:
By now, we all know that Jon and Kate have decided to separate. Following a brief hiatus, the show will continue. But the couple has filed for divorce. The children will to live on the family’s 24 acre estate. Their parents will take turns living with them in the house. But the story isn’t over because fans and non-fans alike continue to speculate about Jon and Kate. Millions of people are still intent on watching this drama unfold.
Has anyone bothered to question why?
Sure. Because watching people’s lives come apart at the seams fascinates us. If Jon and Kate were getting along like Cliff and Claire Huxtable, the show would not be garnering the mega audience it has attained.

No surprise here especially after the last time. James Pethokoukis at Reuters:
Cable channel TLC, which airs reality show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” on Tuesday said that the previous night’s episode attracted its biggest prime-time audience ever at 10.6 million total viewers with 6.5 million of those in the key 18-49 age group, a demographic sought by advertisers.
I guess the ratings when they go to divorce court will rank up their with Roots.

Stephen Lunn at The Australian:
A new study co-authored by Melbourne Institute economist Mark Wooden finds men are less likely to split up with their partner if they are working between 40 and 50 hours a week.“The optimal work arrangement appears to be where the man works a 41- to 49-hour week,” Professor Wooden said.
“Beyond this, the risk of separation does rise, but it is still lower than for couples where the male works a 35- to 40-hour work week.”

Megan K. Scott at The Associated Press:
For some guys, unemployment is the last thing they want to reveal to a potential date. Even if men aren’t expected to pay for a date, they feel pressure from women who are looking for someone who is financially stable.“A lot of men are very careful not to say, ‘I’m unemployed,’” said Pepper Schwartz, chief relationship expert at Perfectmatch.com. “They say, ‘I’m working on this project. I’m taking a sabbatical from work’ or ‘You heard of GM declaring bankruptcy? I worked there.’ They find ways to make it sound like it’s not permanent.”
My question is are unemployed single women going thru the same thing?
