Author Nicole Williams has taken some heat for the “if you’ve got it flaunt it” message in her new career advice book, Girl on Top. Some say it’s a throwback to life before the feminist movement. Williams says it is reality, and society is trying to pretend it’s not. Her mission is to open the dialogue about men, women and how women can use “it” to find success.

A quick glance at chapter titles and opening paragraphs could cause a budding professional woman to misunderstand Williams’ intent as she draws parallels between traditional dating rules and how they can be applied to a woman’s career.

Williams makes her intent very clear.

The trick is not finding what works for everyone, but what works for you more often than not. The randomness may throw you off so you have to be willing to test. In addition, what you are looking for will change the answers to these questions.
