One way to cut back is to swap a few weeks on a faraway island for a short city break, or plan a longer stay in a less obvious destination. Avoid newlywed and honeymoon hot-spots and overpriced ‘couples only’ hotels, and it’s easy to bag a bargain break.
Whilst budget accommodation may not be the first thing that springs to mind for a loved-up holiday, hostels are fantastic value for money, and often have the same facilities as hotels.
Contrary to popular belief, hostels can be romantic; forget late night curfews and sharing a dingy dorm, many of the new ‘boutique hostels’ are aimed at a more upmarket clientele looking for a credit crunch holiday, with private rooms, ensuite bathrooms, and facilities such as chic bars, widescreen TVs and Jacuzzis.
