What’s the Problem?

By DerBingle1 Comment

You are starting to see it on a regular basis when it comes to marriage infidelity among some public figures. They get caught and then find themselves going before the media to make the standard apology. Whether they believe it or not is open to interpretation but one thing is for sure.

The last place they want to be is standing up in front of a group of strangers confessing their marriage infidelity.

Their statements also seem to follow a predictable pattern. They love their significant other, they apologize for the harm they caused and will do everything in their power to make amends for their marriage infidelity.

It is amazing how unconditional love always seems to show up after the fact. To be fair some of these cheating spouses really do mean what they say. The problem is if they really did mean it they would have gone out of their way to avoid the marriage infidelity in the first place. The blind spot exist all the way up to the time they get caught.

There are a host of reasons for the marriage infidelity. Everything from insecurity about themselves or the relationship to good old fashion vanity. The cheating spouse wants what they want. With better communication and trust their significant other could go a long way to fulfilling their needs but a philandering spouse has convinced themselves that is not possible. So they go looking elsewhere.

And then it comes down to figuring out a way to justify their marriage infidelity. Blaming the victim (i.e their spouse) usually works pretty well. Sometimes to the point that even their significant other starts to believe it.

Another way is to not acknowledge any wrongdoing at all. Yes they had an affair but so what? They love their spouse and family and have no desire to end the marriage. It was just one of those things. If it happens again and again it’s no big deal.
